Is Hemp Legal?!?

We are often asked if hemp is legal in the United States. The answer is a resounding yes!

The Agricultural Act of 2014, commonly referred to as the 2014 Farm Bill, helped to clarify hemp’s status. Section 7606 of the Act stated to the Department of Agriculture of each state, along with institutions of higher learning, that growing, cultivating, processing and marketing hemp is legal as long as research projects are conducted in accordance with state and Federal laws. Though still a bit confusing, it was the beginning of permitting access to hemp.

In August 2016, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) all signed a Statement of Principles verifying that federal agencies have a legal basis for the broad federal acceptance of hemp. Most of the antiquated legal questions concerning shipping hemp over state and international lines have since been removed, meaning the practice is accepted as legal by federal agencies.
